Today’s outfit was super simple, even though it was a pretty awesome day! I wanted to wear a TWU shirt as an affirmation for the assignment I was doing. Two of the classes I’m taking this semester require you to observe children for two hours each week. So that’s not a huge problem, except I just moved here and don’t know anyone with children well enough to say, “hey, can I come to your house for two hours and watch your child?” That would sound pretty creepy. So instead I went to the mall, because they have a children’s play area.Although it’s still a little weird, it’s not as bad as being in a stranger’s house. Anyway, I wanted to wear the TWU shirt in case anyone asked me why I was watching their child play at the mall. Also, I was still making up for the four hours of sleep I got the night before and did not want to put forth more effort than absolutely necessary. Also, I’m running out of ideas. But on to exciting things: I got new coffee mugs at Ross today! They’re super cute and match our dorm perfectly! (check them out on instagram?). I also bought brownie explosion coffee, which I’m super excited to try! Continuing the food theme, I went over to a friend’s apartment and made banana bread (mind blowing fact: there were only three ingredients. 3 bananas, 2 eggs, 1 yellow cake mix. 350 for 40 minutes in two small loaf pans. Legit, it tastes like regular banana bread, only a teensy bit sweeter. My next adventure is to try to make it in a mug in the microwave). BUT: the most exciting news of all time is that………..Rachel and Lindsay just bought their plane tickets to come visit me!!!!! I am SO EXCITED!! We’re already planning our short week Together in Texas (that’s the theme of this Clarinet Reunion, I just decided that). What is your favorite thing to do in San Antonio and surrounding areas?
First of all, I’d like to thank my friend, Lindsay, for introducing me to these brownies. They are incredible.
This is what they look like finished. Not beautiful, but incredibly delicious.
I made them for the Easter Vigil party. They are caramely, chocolatey, nutty goodness.
This is the first layer.
You have to melt the caramel candies in a double boiler until it’s smooth like this.
Knock You Naked Brownies
1 Box German Chocolate Cake Mix
1 C Chopped Pecans
1/3 C Evaporated Milk
1/2 C Evaporated Milk (additional)
1/2 C Butter, melted
60 Caramel Candies
1/3 C Chocolate Chips
1/4 C Powdered Sugar (optional)
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9×9 pan. Mix together the cake mix (not prepared, just the powdery mix), pecans, 1/3 C evaporated milk, and butter. The mix will be very thick. Press half the mixture into the pan and bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes. While it’s baking melt the caramels and 1/2 C evaporated milk in a double boiler until smooth. Pour it over the cake when it comes out. Make sure to pour it over a spatula or something because if you pour it directly onto the cake it will make a hole in your cake. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the caramel. Press the remaining cake mix into a square slightly smaller than 9×9. Use a spatula to flip the cake mix onto the caramel covered cake. It’s ok if you can’t get it all at once, you can piece it together. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar once cool, if desired. Enjoy!
I love music. Not just in the “I listen to music all the time, I can’t go a day without it” kind of way, but also in the “I can play four instruments” kind of way. I’m especially thankful for music this time of year, because I LOVE Christmas music. I love playing Christmas music in band, I love listening to Christmas music in the car, I love going to Christmas concerts, and I love playing Christmas records on my record player. Today, I get to do all four things. I’ve been playing Christmas records all morning, I’m about to go to band when I get to listen in the car, and I’m going to the Story Tour tonight with my bestest friends (The Clarinets). I’m super excited!
Today I am thankful for technology! I honestly don’t know what I would do without it. Three-way skyping with The Clarinets and then a surprise conversation with my sister lasting until twelve thirty made my night super awesome. Being able to connect with people that I haven’t seen in five (or more!) years through Facebook is amazing. Plus being able to post to a blog online for anyone to see is crazy cool. I love seeing the countries that my blog was viewed in: Finland, China, Sweden, Korea, and Germany to name a few. It’s so neat to know that people in a completely different country are reading what I write in my quiet little house in the United States. Not to mention “smaller” technology such as phones, texting, and email. I have become so accustomed to having internet twenty-four seven, but today I will stop and remember how lucky I am to have it. It would be much harder to live without technology.
You might think this is the same thing as being thankful for my friends. However, The Clarinets are more than friends. We might even be more than sisters. Whatever we are, I am so thankful for it! This group of girls has changed my life. I am so thankful God brought me to Columbia, SC so I could form bonds with these AMAZING women! Thank you, God for The Clarinets!!
From Left to Right: Rachel, Lindsay, Me, Ms. Cindy, DeVendra
My favorite memories with The Clarinets: 1) Craziness at band (especially in clarinet ensemble, Ms. Cindy puts up with a lot!!) 2) Making our “Clarinets of 2012” shirts 3) Flea market shopping (we got turtles!) 4) Vintage dress shopping/wearing/taking pictures 5) Trying pear salad (it has mayonnaise and cheese on top of a canned pear…) 5) Trying out each other’s churches (mine is next!) 6) Three-way calling This list could go on for pages and pages, but you might get tired of hearing how awesome they are, so I’ll stop at just six. I am so thankful for The Clarinets! I love you guys!!!
Hello Everyone! Here I am again, still at my sister’s school which is why I’m typing this post at one in the morning. I had forgotten to take this picture until midnight, and we were about to go play wiffle ball. My sister (who was taking the picture) says “just make your ‘I’m about to go play wiffle ball at midnight for the first time ever’ face,” and this is the face I came up with. Therefore, this is the face you get…
Today I wore the dress, a red and gray (and a little bit of sparkly silver and pink) striped sweater, silver sparkly TOMS, the traveling earrings, and a black headband. I seriously did look cute before it was the middle of the night, I promise. See y’all tomorrow (or today, rather…)!
Hello Everyone! Sorry I’m late for yesterday, but I’m visiting my sister in college and we were a little busy. I’m doing this post while all the college kids are asleep! 🙂 Here’s what I wore yesterday.
I wore the dress, an orange/nude/gray striped top over, the traveling earrings (see day twenty-five), and my nude flats (see my post about these shoes here). I’ll be back later today to tell y’all what I’m wearing. Until then!
